Cards, probably originating from Egypt, made their way to Europe. Members of the Royal Court were included in the deck,
including King Charlemagne as the King of Hearts, and two of his champion warriors as the mysteriously one-eyed Jack of Spades and Jack of Hearts.
The Queen was fashioned after the King's interior decorator, Lance.
